Hello Challengers of the Koi Pond Classic!
It is almost game time for you all to channel your inner Koi and swim upstream to the Bristol Yacht Club. The Koi Pond Committee and our school of volunteers are eager to welcome you for a fun weekend of match racing. Which Koi will end the weekend on top?
The Koi Pond Committee wants to make sure that you are well prepared for the weekend so please review the weekend timeline below and suggested actions.
Saturday at 930am is the competitors meeting. When you park, please park towards the back of the parking lot as there will be a wedding in the afternoon. Please come to the meeting mostly dressed and ready for the day. As prep for the meeting please read the Sailing Instructions, Pairing Sheet and Boat Assignments, and G.N.A.R. Addendum (all attached and will be available at koipondclassic.com). Also Pearson sent a lot of great information about match racing that you all can use to refresh your memory on match racing or learn to make new memories since some of you are new to the game.
Dress for Rain Saturday - The forecast looks ominous for us Koi but good thing because Koi spend 90% of their lives in super wet water and the remaining in mildly wet water.
Required items for teams to bring - VHF, Lifejackets, lunch, and water. We will have water to refill on the water.
First Annual Gathering of the Koi Sponsored by Whalers Brewing Company - following the end of sailing Saturday all Koi are to report to 22 Mill St in Newport for dinner, Whalers' refreshments (beer and hard seltzer), umpire debrief, and a night of celebration. Remember win or lose, we are all fortunate to be swimming together.
Sunday the competitor's meeting will be at 930am unless otherwise stated EOD Saturday. No warning after 430 on Sunday, but the plan is for us to wrap up before then.
Please forward to your teammates and ask follow up questions in the Whatsapp group that you will be added to today. Follow us on Insta @koipondclassic
We are all excited to see you out on the water for a weekend of match racing, comradery, and celebration. Remember, this will be the last regatta you will ever sail!
Koi out.
